Debut album – how to release new music

Since moving to Nashville I’ve written probably 25 songs or so. Now I’m working with Dominic Gibbs to record a full-length album of the best of my new work. But there are many ways to release music, and in this blog we’re going to talk about the process I plan to follow to make the most momentum (and the biggest splash).

Read on and let me know what you think in the comments below.

It’s never a bad thing when you’re excited about lots of pieces of art (music, or otherwise) such that it’s hard to decide which should be part of an upcoming compilation.

Definitely makes it harder if you have multiple styles being represented in your body of work, and that’s probably true of my music. I love jazz, but damnit if I don’t like pop too, and the luscious folk sounds and harmonies of groups like Band of Horses and Bon Iver. And I have a funky side. All that to say, I’ve decided to showcase a little of everything in this first batch of songs.

“Without Wanting To”

“Now I Have Faith”

“Before We Had It All”

“California”

“Don’t Follow Me Down”

“It Ain’t Alright”

“Roadmap”

Five more to be announced, and a little expository about the influences and styles of each of these tunes – soon to come!

ps – I’m supporting myself (and releasing one, studio quality song per month for, well, as far into the future as I can see), by generous listeners and readers like you. Check out my Patreon page – a simple $5 pledge gets you free downloads of each monthly song, as well as exclusive content (song ideas I’m working on, updates on shows, news from traveling, and more). It allows me to take you along on this journey I’m on, as a full-time recording artist. Every little bit helps, so thank you in advance for your consideration!
